Drone Strike Disrupts Operations at Dubai International Airport

O Operations at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates were temporarily suspended on Saturday after a drone strike hit an area near the airport’s terminals, causing panic at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.

Authorities said the country’s air defence systems were immediately activated following the incident, as emergency protocols were put in place across the airport.

Passengers waiting to board flights were reportedly moved to safer locations within the sprawling airfield, including underground train tunnels, after the security alert was triggered.

A witness told AFP that a loud explosion was heard over the airport moments before a cloud of smoke appeared in the sky.

“I heard a huge explosion over the airport, and shortly after that there was smoke rising into the air,” the witness said.

Several residents across Dubai also reported hearing multiple explosions in different parts of the city, according to accounts shared with the Associated Press.

Meanwhile, Emirates airline confirmed that all flight operations had been halted as authorities worked to assess the situation.

“All flights to and from Dubai have been suspended until further notice,” the airline said in a statement.

Emirates added that passengers who had booked travel between February 28 and March 31 would be allowed to rebook their flights or request refunds.

Officials in the United Arab Emirates said an investigation had been launched to determine the origin of the drone and whether the attack was linked to broader regional tensions.

Authorities also confirmed that security around major national infrastructure has been placed on heightened alert while the situation is being closely monitored.
