Godfrey Okoye University Bans Students from Davido Concert, Triggers Hostel Unrest

G Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has come under public scrutiny after banning its students from attending Davido’s 5ive Tour concert, citing safety concerns such as possible stampedes and insecurity.

According to reports, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, enforced the restriction through a surprise late-night roll call at the female hostel — a move that sparked outrage and protests among students.

In reaction, some students reportedly hosted impromptu dorm parties, playing Davido’s songs loudly and dancing in defiance of the directive.

Videos of the protests have since gone viral on social media, highlighting the growing tension between the university’s strict disciplinary policies and students’ push for greater social freedom.
