JAMB extends 2025 public university admissions deadline

T The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of 2025 admissions into public universities. The new deadline is now Monday, November 17, 2025, replacing the earlier date of Friday, October 31, 2025.

The decision was taken following the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, chaired by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, where the initial deadline was approved. In a statement, the Board explained that the extension became necessary due to “emergent and compelling circumstances” affecting the admission process.

JAMB cited the appeal by the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) after disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission list, which was only lifted on October 28, 2025. It also referenced the National Universities Commission (NUC), which, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025, necessitating extra time for admissions processing.

The Board commended public universities for their diligence and adherence to the initial schedule, noting that the new timeline was introduced to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and expanded access for all qualified candidates.

JAMB emphasised that the new deadline is final and must be strictly observed, reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and credible admission process aligned with national education objectives and institutional autonomy.
