Immigration Officials Seize Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Passport at Abuja Airport

N Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has alleged harassment after officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) reportedly confiscated her international passport at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to eyewitness accounts and a video circulating online, the senator was stopped by immigration officers as she prepared to board a flight. The officials allegedly informed her that they were acting on “orders from above,” though no official explanation was given for the action.

In the viral clip, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed shock and frustration over the incident, describing it as “a deliberate act of intimidation.” She linked the move to her recent calls for greater transparency and accountability in Kogi State’s political and economic affairs.

“Have I committed any offense? Why are you withholding my passport?” she was heard asking the officers. “This is not just about me; it’s about silencing voices that speak for accountability and justice.”

The development has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many condemning the action as politically motivated, while others urged calm and called for the senator to seek legal clarification.

As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Immigration Service has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
