Kwara Govt Urges Vigilance Ahead of Crossover Services, New Year Celebrations

T The Kwara State Government has urged residents to remain vigilant and exercise heightened caution ahead of crossover services and the New Year holiday, citing security intelligence that suggests possible threats to public safety.

In a public advisory issued on Tuesday, the state government encouraged citizens to avoid non-essential movements and large gatherings that could be targeted by criminal elements, particularly kidnappers seeking soft targets during the festive period.

According to the government, the warning became necessary following intelligence reports indicating that some bad-faith actors are planning to attack government infrastructure and other vulnerable locations in a bid to avenge recent losses suffered from security operations.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, said the state government was taking proactive measures to safeguard lives and property across Kwara during the festivities.

“We urge members of the public to remain alert and security-conscious, especially during crossover services and the New Year celebrations. Residents should avoid unnecessary movements and large gatherings that could expose them to danger,” Olukoju said.

She assured residents that security agencies in the state have been placed on high alert and will continue to intensify surveillance and patrols to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

“The security forces will sustain their efforts to protect lives and property throughout the holiday period. However, public cooperation remains critical to achieving a safe and peaceful celebration,” the commissioner added.

Olukoju also called on citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities, particularly unusual movements involving convoys of motorcycles, to the appropriate security authorities for swift action.

The Kwara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged everyone to celebrate responsibly, while remaining vigilant and supportive of ongoing security efforts across the state.
